Tapping deep threads

Our DOMINANT VA45 DF for the maching of threads up to 4xD and the end of bird nesting

When chips are no longer reliably evacuated from the hole, it becomes a serious issue. Initially for the machine operator, who must manually remove tangled chips from the hole or bird nests from the tap. And subsequently for the entire production process due to the additional costs involved.

This problem is typically caused by long-chipping materials or very deep threads (greater than 3xD). At EMO in Hannover, we are presenting the solution with the further development of our universal tapping tool DOMINANT VA45.

The highly spiralized flute in the thread-forming section of the tool shapes the chip and provides sufficient space for chip formation. By reducing the helix angle in the subsequent section, the chip is effectively evacuated, thereby preventing bird nests and tangled chips. We refer to this controlled variation of the helix angle along the flute as Dynamic Flute.

What makes the DOMINANT VA45 DF (Dynamic Flute) special is its ability to reliably machine even very deep threads. Whereas thread depths of 4xD previously had to be machined in multiple steps to break the chip in between, the new tool from BASS can reach full thread depth in a single pass.
