IT'S A FINE THING

Thread milling for small dimensions

GFE

The solid carbide thread milling cutter GFE has been developed for the machining of great depths of up to 3xd with small dimensions. Whereas other thread milling cutters always have many teeth and are pushed aside by the working material, with the GFE only one tooth is in processing. Thus, the occurring radial forces are reduced to a minimum and the maximum cylindricity of the milled thread is achieved. The thread milling cutter can be used for versatile applications and is also designed for working materials of up to 45 HRC.

The smallest of our thread milling cutters is available starting with diameter M1.2 up to M3.5, making it an ideal tool for the medical technology and precision mechanics.

GFD

The GFD is characterized by high precision and low radial forces during machining. The tool which can be used for versatile applications is even suitable for materials with a hardness of up to 45 HRC. Coated with the powerful FNT surface, the GFD feels at home in thread depths of up to 3×d and still guarantees high accuracy and trueness to gauge all way down to the bottom of the hole.

The thread milling cutter is available starting with diameter M1.2 up to M10 and therefore ideally suited for the medical technology and precision mechanics. Due to its high reliability, it is also well suited for precious and hard to machine materials. The GFD can thus be applied for tool and mold making.

Product benefits

GFE

  • very high cylindricity
  • high tool life
  • deep thread depths (up to 3xd)
  • for small dimensions
  • for almost all materials
  • for small batch production

GFD

  • very high cylindricity
  • very high tool life
  • deep thread depths (up to 3xd)
  • for small dimensions
  • for almost all materials
  • for serial production

Machining steps

  1. Start position: approach to centre of machined hole
  2. Approach to radial thread depth with descending loop
  3. Circular milling, thread turn after thread turn to the desired thread depth, after machining run-out loop back to centre
  4. Return to start position, end of thread milling process
