Future Prize “Wissentransfer“ (award for knowledge transfer)
BASS has achieved the first place in the Future Prize competition of the Main-Tauber region in the category “enterprise over 50 employees”.
The Future Prize is awarded biennially by the association for economic development “Wirtschaftsförderung” of the Main-Tauber region. In 2018, the regional economy´s “knowledge transfer” was paramount. BASS was able to convince the jury by presenting a coherent fundamental concept and was honoured with the first place in the category of the companies with over 50 employees.
At BASS in Niederstetten, knowledge transfer is a substantial element of the company´s mission and also deeply entrenched in the operational structures. It is for this reason that the jury commended the tool manufacturer for a structured, consistent overall strategy.
Consolidating existing knowledge is part of the strategy – as well as keeping it transparent. Knowledge transfer is not just happening when a long-serving colleague approaches retirement and introduces his area of responsibility to his successor. Moreover, there is an active interchange on a daily basis, even among the company´s different departments. This is where BASS is supported by a specifically developed software, but digital standard products are also used – depending on the requirement of the particular field of knowledge.
Thanks to digitalization, tangible information can be derived from already available data and then be analysed in the specialist departments which facilitates the creation of knowledge at the medium-sized company BASS. This means for example in practice, that common causes can be identified from scrap quantity and scrap reason analysis in the production and prevented prospectively by means of introducing new processes.
The product configurator which has been developed by employees from the engineering department, shows that knowledge transfer can also entail the creation of free space for core tasks. Knowledge, thus far only available in the heads of some distinct technicians, has been gathered and translated into programme logic and algorithms. Individual work steps from the installation of new products will soon be automatized and performed by the software, thereby the design engineers can focus on more complex elements. This also benefits the colleagues from the sales department, hereafter enabled to find a suitable solution from over 14.000 products even more quickly.
We owe this prize to all our employees whose involvement and dedication contributes to the fact that knowledge transfer is lived every day. Furthermore, we would like to equally thank the “Wirtschaftsförderkreis” (society for promotion of business) as the competition´s sponsor as well as the jury members. This Future Prize is both confirmation and motivation at the same time, an incentive to persistently evolve into a “knowledge company”.
BASS has already claimed a podium position in topic areas such as “Familienfreundlicher Betrieb” (family-friendly company), “Willkommenskultur” (culture of welcoming) and “Ausbildung – Karriere daheim” (apprenticeship – career at home) in the past.
